I have made a series of pieces for Emporium which reflect my interest

in the past, and how it haunts the present, with particular reference in this case to the ancient world.

The emporium in Ancient Rome was the landing place and market for the merchandise brought up the River Tiber from Ostia, Rome's trading port. Initially it was an open wharf, but as Rome grew, so it became part of a system of quays and warehouses which extended along the riverside for a kilometre. Now only fragments and traces remain.
