Diana Hand was initially educated at the
Ruskin School of Drawing in Oxford.
She later moved
to Scotland to work at
a Rudolf Steiner community, and was inspired to begin working with
colour and textiles. This
has remained a passion and has been her livelihood since 1985.
She continued to develop her work by studying part-time at
Leith School of Art and Edinburgh College of Art, and in 1997 she entered Glasgow School of Art to study
painting, and graduated with a BA Honours in 2001.
This was followed by a Masters in Contemporary Art Theory
completed in 2004.
Her studies have helped her to connect ideas
and practice. Concepts
provide an essential base and structure to build on and to
increase understanding, although in her practice Diana often prefers to work spontaneously and rapidly, whether using dye on
textiles or other media on paper.
